NOVEL PROVIDENCE FARM TREECYCLING
12 / 01 / 2017
In summer of 2016, the Crescent Communities team worked with a group of local tree experts to identify special trees that we knew we wanted to preserve from the existing Providence Farm site. Trees were identified and sorted based on their highest use. Trees that were not ideal for reuse were managed for lumber and mulch purposes.
With assistance from Carolina Urban Lumber, we were able to select special trees to be repurposed as community furniture and finishes, including the prominent 12-foot-long live edge walnut table in the clubroom and the individualized resident charcuterie boards. The Tree ID markings allow for final products to be connected directly back to their source.
We managed each step of the process, to create pieces that honor the beauty of the original trees and documented along the way to educate others in the development community on ways to manage trees more responsibly.
