Link Cykel
Using art to convey the beauty of embracing a car-free lifestyle along the greenway in West Charlotte.
Adjacent to the greenway that conveys cyclists and pedestrians to all parts of the city, this car-free multi-family project demanded a rich and singular theme of a connection to the outdoors. While each individual may have had a different reason for living a car-free lifestyle, there is commonality in an appreciation for the outdoors. We found ways to do that both literally and figuratively.
A large bike storage mural by Natalie Daratony depicts the rolling hills of the piedmont area. Grace Stott was inspired by a famous tapestry when creating a detailed ceramic installation reflecting the flora, fauna and animals one might discover on a walk or ride along the greenway. Justin Ellis painted a series of five interior murals, his first ever, that translated his doodle style into a myriad of colorful pathways. Each piece projects story and imagery from the great outdoors. On the exterior, Esther Moorehead’s mural subconsciously transitions from the serenity of Link Cykel to the faster pace of Uptown Charlotte.
