Sullenberger Aviation Museum

The challenge was simple: create art that will make teenagers visiting the space stop and take note.

This piece by Elizabeth Palmisano and Mustafah Greene was the result of a multi phased engagement with the Sullenberger Museum. Their new education wing houses visits from students and organizations daily. One of the biggest challenges for the museum staff is getting the older students excited. While the installation is for everyone, our goal was to create something that even the teenagers would stop to appreciate.

We knew immediately that the answer was: The Selfie. Building on the current ad campaign of Airheads, the artists created spaces along the wall where anyone could situate under one of the clouds and snap a photo of themselves being transported into the Airhead Family immediately.

The paper used to create the clouds on the wall were made using pulp from an engagement activity run at the Grand Opening of the museum with visitors.
